Frequently Asked Questions

Do you prescribe medications?

No, I do not prescribe medications. The prescription of psychiatric medications is done by Psychiatrists (MD) and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (APRN). While I possess a general understanding of medications, I am unable to provide guidance or prescribe them.

During our counseling process, we may explore the potential benefits of medications for your specific case. If it seems appropriate, I can assist you in finding a qualified professional for medication management through a referral.

How much do you charge? Do you have a sliding fee?

The initial intake assessment is $180.00, with follow-up sessions $150.00 each. I understand the importance of accessibility and can offer sliding fees for those without insurance. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or to discuss your specific needs.

Do you take insurance? How does that work?

Yes, I do accept insurance as part of my commitment to making quality mental health care accessible. I am credentialed with the following insurance providers: BlueCross BlueShield, United Healthcare, Aetna, Medicaid (including Sunflower Health, United Community, and Aetna Better Health), Tricare West, and Providrs Care.

To submit insurance claims, a diagnosis is required as insurance coverage is typically contingent on medical necessity. I understand that various factors may contribute to the decision of whether or not to use insurance. If you have any questions or need clarification about your individual options, please feel free to contact me.

What is the difference between coaching and counseling?

Therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is designed to delve into and address underlying emotional trauma or pain from the past. Its primary goal is to understand and resolve these issues, promoting emotional healing.

Coaching, on the other hand, is focused on the present and future. It assists clients in identifying their goals and harnessing internal and external strengths and resources to take action toward those goals.

I am pleased to offer both therapy and coaching services. It's important to note that while therapy sessions can be submitted to insurance companies, a diagnosis is required for insurance coverage. Coaching sessions, on the other hand, cannot be submitted to insurance

Does insurance cover marriage therapy?

Insurance plans typically do not provide benefits specifically for marriage counseling. To utilize insurance for couples counseling, at least one partner must meet the criteria for a mental health diagnosis, such as adjustment disorder, depression, anxiety, or another condition requiring mental health treatment. If you have questions about insurance coverage for couples counseling or need assistance understanding your options, please reach out, and I'll be happy to help.

Through premarital counseling, couples can identify areas of strength and potential challenges, addressing concerns such as previous marriages, blended families, and cultural differences.
